Ex-Mormon here. The way the afterlife was taught to me is that there were several tiers of heaven, the bottommost of which is the Telestial Kingdom. It’s supposedly so good that if you really comprehended how amazing it was, you would immediately kill yourself to get there. That’s where rapists, murderers, and Adolf Hitler go. It gets better from there. Below that is the hell analogue, which is called Outer Darkness. That’s where Satan hangs out with the 1/3(ish) of the hosts of heaven that stood with him against God, Jesus and the other 2/3rds of the hosts of heaven in the pre-mortal existence. That’s where you go if you’ve, like, met God, then choose to stand with Satan in defiance of him and his plan for humanity. Maybe three guys from the bible will go to Outer Darkness, and everyone else gets some version of amazing heaven forever. I should caveat that I am not 100% sure on all of this. I haven’t been a Mormon since I was a teenager and I’m now 27.
